ERIE, Pa. -- An Officer for the Employment of Women in Ministry will be proposed
at a meeting requested with the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church, the Rt. Rev.
John M. Allin, and his Executive for Administration, the Rt. Rev. Milton L. Wood, Jr.
The proposed officer will advocate, support and facilitate the employment of women in
ministry throughout the Episcopal Church. It is recommended that the officer act as an
employment counselor for women in ministry, a consultant to dioceses and seminaries and
foster community among women workers and information systems within the Episcopal
Church.
The Officer for the Employment of Women in Ministry will be proposed by the
Women's Employment Project Committee, an ad hoc committee sponsored by The Ministry
Council. The committee's members are: Mrs. Lueta Bailey, Diocese of Atlanta; the
Rev. Carol L. Anderson, Diocese of New York; the Rev. Roddey Reid, Jr., Clergy
Deployment Office; the Rt. Rev. Donald J. Davis, Diocese of Erie; the Rt. Rev. David E.
Richards, Pastoral Development, Chairman; and Ms. Joan Bowman, Diocese of Washington,
consultant.
The committee will urge support for the proposal to assist the employment of women
in ministry prior to the Minnesota General Convention this fall and whether or not women
are admitted to priesthood and episcopacy. |
