Resolved, That the Calendar of the Church Year (Book of Common Prayer, pages 19-30) be revised by the addition of certain commemorations, as follows:

January 12 Aelred, Abbot of Rievaulx, 1167
September 1 David Pendleton Oakerhater, Deacon and Missionary of the Cheyenne, 1931
September 9 Constance, Nun, and her Companions, commonly called "The Martyrs of Memphis," 1878
October 14 Teresa of Avila, Nun, 1582
November 20 Edmund, King of East Anglia, and Martyr, 870
November 25 James Otis Sargent Huntington, Priest and Monk, 1935
November 28 Kamehameha and Emma, King and Queen of Hawaii, 1863, 1885;

and be it further

Resolved, That the process by which additional Days of Commemoration are added to the Liturgical Calendar of the Church be referred to the Standing Liturgical Commission during the coming triennium for a report to the next General Convention containing suggested guidelines that are clear and detailed, by which new names are added in the future to the Days of Commemoration.

Resolved, the House of Deputies concurring, That the Calendar of the Church Year (Book of Common Prayer, pages 19-30) be revised by the addition of certain commemorations, as follows:

Seconded by Bishop Gordon.

The Bishop of the Central Gulf Coast moved an amendment.

Proposed Amendment:

Delete January 12 (Aelred) and November 20 (Edmund).

Seconded by Bishop Powell.

The Bishop of Louisiana moved re-referral to the Committee on Prayer Book for further study, to be brought back during this Convention.

Seconded by the Bishop of Kentucky.

On the sixth day, the Bishop of North Carolina, Chairman of the Committee on Prayer Book and Liturgy, moved A092 (Additional Days of Commemorations). The Resolution was moved on the third day and re-referred to the Committee for further study.

The Bishop of the Central Gulf Coast moved an amendment.

Proposed Amendment:

Delete January 12 (Aelred) and November 20 (Edmund).

Motion to delete defeated

The Committee accepted an amendment to the Resolution, offered by the Bishop of Texas, that would refer to the Standing Liturgical Commission the need to develop guidelines for the future inclusion of names for the Calendar and to report such recommended guidelines to the 1988 General Convention.
