Resolved, That the Executive Council express to Bishop Jim Krotz and "all the people of the land" in the Diocese of Nebraska, our thanks for their warm greetings and welcome, and express our gratitude to the Dean of Trinity Cathedral, Canon Gary Young, for his hospitality, and to the Rev. Scott Parker, Ms. Sue Peters, and all involved in the preparations for "Nebraska Night -- Executive Council at the Zoo"; and be it further

Resolved, That the Executive Council rejoice with the newly created big guns of our Church, Canon Mauney, Canon Grieves, and Canon Chang; and be it further

Resolved, That the Executive Council extend our best wishes to Toni Gilbert on the anniversary of her birth and the onset of the traumatic last year of the first half-century of her life; and be it further

Resolved, That the Executive Council celebrate with Grandfather Earl Cavanaugh the continued expansion of his family; and be it further

Resolved, That the Executive Council give its special recognition and thanks for the hard work and selfless giving of the Chairs of our Standing Committees: Rusty Kimsey, Marcy Walsh and Ros Moore; and be it further

Resolved, That the Executive Council express its appreciation to Bishop Edmund Browning for his thoughtful and challenging remarks to the Council in his opening address and his reaffirmation that "we are all persons in the making," trying to be ministers of acceptance; and be it further

Resolved, That the Executive Council celebrate and affirm the ministries of Patti and Ed Browning for peace in the Middle East and congratulate them on the honor of having the Library at St. George's College in Jerusalem named after them; and be it further

Resolved, That the Executive Council request the Secretary to transmit the following message in writing to the Most Reverend Desmond Tutu:

For Archbishop Tutu and our sisters and brothers in South Africa from the Executive Council of the Episcopal Church in the United States, meeting today in Omaha, Nebraska:

We rejoice at the events of this day and commend you for the efforts over the years toward justice, healing and reconciliation. As we have stood with you in your struggles, please know that we dance with you in your joy -- as we saw on television our brother, Desmond, dancing for joy. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and we will continue to hold you in prayer during these new days. Be it further

Resolved, That the Executive council extend its heartfelt thanks and respect to the Rev. Loren Mead on his retirement from the Alban Institute, with special thanks for the tremendous leadership and devotion which lead the Institute to a special place of prominence in the Church; and be it further

Resolved, That the Executive Council offer its prayers of thanks for the witness of the Rt. Rev. Martin Barahona as he served and returns safely from being an observer at the elections in South Africa; and be it further

Resolved, That the Executive Council send its thanks to the Rev. Creighton Robertson, Bishop-elect of South Dakota, for taking time to visit during this Council meeting, wishing him God's blessings in the future; and be it further

Resolved, That the Executive Council send its condolences to the family of Richard M. Nixon, giving thanks for his time as President of the United States; and be it further

Resolved, That the Executive Council extend to Abed Ajrami, student at Clarkson University from the Gaza Strip, our thanks for his powerful witness to peace in Palestine and Israel and declare to him our Church's solidarity with all who work and pray for peace and justice in his homeland; and be it further

Resolved, That the Executive Council, meeting in Omaha, express its profound sorrow at the death of the Very Rev. James R. Gundrum, while giving thanks to God for his entrance into the life of the Church Triumphant and acknowledging the major contributions he made to the life and vitality of this Church; and be it further

Resolved, That the Executive Council, meeting in Omaha, express its deepest sympathy to his wife Fran and their children Carol, Cameron and David, and assure them of our continuing prayers and affection; and be it further

Resolved, That the Executive Council extend its thanks to Kris Lee for the introduction to QUEST International and his encouraging us to take our first steps along the information super-highway; and be it further

Resolved, That the Executive Council thank the Church Center Staff, both those with us in Omaha and those who like Eldad and Medad are needed back in the camp, for their diligent work in support of the ministry of the Executive Council; and be it further

Resolved, That the Executive Council, in particular, recognize the contribution of Br. Richard Biernacki and those who worked with him to faithfully produce the paperwork for this meeting; and be it further

Resolved, That the Executive Council recognize with our profound thanks Barry Menuez as he approaches retirement this year, acknowledging the tremendous gifts that he has brought to the life and ministry of our Church.
