Resolved, That the Executive Council, meeting in Delavan, Wisconsin, October 24-27, 2000, commends the Presiding Bishop for the leadership expressed in his letter to President Clinton regarding the current Israeli/Palestinian crisis and endorses the content of that letter, particularly:

calling for a return to the peace process as the only option that can produce a just peace for both parties,
calling upon Israel to refrain from the use of a disproportional military response,
insisting that the safety of all people in the area on both sides be protected and on the withdrawal of Israeli forces from areas of tension in the territories,
supporting an impartial international investigation into the outbreak of the violence,
supporting enforcement of United Nations resolutions related to the Israeli/Palestinian conflict,
insisting that the current crisis not be used as a pretext to continue the long and inhumane occupation; and be it further

Resolved, That the Council requests all congregations to pray for peace in the Middle East remembering especially the Diocese of Jerusalem and our mission personnel working there; and be it further

Resolved, That the Council also commends to all congregations the Jerusalem 2000 campaign being administered by Episcopal Relief and Development, which has as its goal the raising of $2.5 million to support the infrastructure of the Diocese of Jerusalem, including its hospitals and schools; and be it further

Resolved, That the Council further commends as a timely teaching resource the booklet and video called "Peacemaking in the Holy Land," produced by the Episcopal Church summarizing the Church's long role in the peace process.
