About The Executive Council
Executive Council is the body chiefly
responsible for the implementation of policy and program for The Episcopal
Church in its national jurisdiction. It is charged to coordinate the
Church's work as authorized by the General Convention, which is the
Church's highest deliberative and legislative body. Executive Council
also acts as the board of directors in matters of administration,
finance, and legality for the Church's corporate entity, the Domestic
and Foreign Missionary Society/PECUSA. The duties and authority of the
Executive Council are defined by Canon I.4. The Council is made up of
38 persons elected to represent lay and clerical orders, and five ex
officio members. Executive Council typically meets three times in
the Church year. The Council is comprised of standing committees and
other working groups who are responsible for reviewing and formulating
the resolutions that come before it.
