The Archives collects personal and family papers of both lay and ordained leaders who have made a significant contribution to the church and its mission.
Materials are accepted in a variety of formats including print, audio-visual, and born-digital. All donations are carefully considered and evaluated in terms of their relevance to documenting the work and ministries of The Episcopal Church, the mission of the Archives, and our ability to properly care for them.
Generally, the Archives will accept:
• Letters (manuscripts) received and sent
• Correspondence in general (e.g., mailings, reports received, circulars)
• Email
• Work files and project files (special events, community issues, etc.)
• Organizational files (memberships, boards, committees, interests and activities)
• Sermons (printed and manuscript)
• Memoirs, journals, and dairies
• Public addresses and lectures
• Published works (authored books, edited books, articles, pamphlets, tracts)
• Unpublished manuscripts
• Date books and calendars
• Notebooks, class papers, theses and dissertations
• Photographs (snapshots, formal photo portraits, negatives, slides, etc., with approx. dates)
• Recordings (audio and video recordings)
• Credentials and awards received
• Memorabilia
Generally, the Archives will not accept:
• Family Bibles or Books of Common Prayer
• Duplicates of any items already in the collections
• Newspaper clippings
• Materials in exceptionally poor condition which would pose a hazard to the collections (i.e., mold or insect infestation)
