Elected 1901; served to 1904

The Rev. John Summerfield Lindsay began his ministry as assistant at Trinity Church, Portsmouth, Virgina, a position he held from 1869-1871, after which he became rector of St. James, Warrentown, VA, from 1871 to 1879.  In 1879 he was made rector of St. John’s, Georgetown, Washington, D.C., and served as the Chaplain to the House of Representatives of the 41st Congress. Following this he was called to serve at St. John’s in Bridgeport, CT, from 1887-1889, and in 1889 he became rector of St. Paul’s, Boston.  John Lindsay died on November 30, 1903, aged 61.
