All personal papers and organizational records, including, but not limited to, manuscripts, proceedings and reports, publications, and audiovisual materials, located in The Archives of the Episcopal Church, are the property and under the copyright protection of The Domestic and Foreign Missionary Society of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States of America, unless otherwise noted. Discretionary decisions regarding access and disposition are reserved to the Canonical Archivist of The Archives of the Episcopal Church.

The Archives of the Episcopal Church has made portions of its collections available for educational and research purposes through its website via the digital archives, exhibits, and galleries. Online publication of the materials does not confer permission for reuse of these materials. Permission to publish, use, quote extensively from, or exhibit materials must be obtained in advance and in writing by completing the Contact Form.

When completing the form, be sure to include:

  • Title
  • Publication date
  • Publisher name and address
  • Profit or non-profit use
  • Number of copies to be published
  • Foreign language or e-reader language rights
  • Specific materials to be used; if requesting an image or recording found online, please include a link or other identifier.

Note: Completion of the form does not automatically confer permission for use or publication.

In determining if permission is to be granted, the Archives staff will provide a cost estimate for publication use, including the cost for reproductions and potential royalties. Delays in providing the requested information will delay authorization and may result in rush fees. Researchers are encouraged to submit requests early in anticipation of publication deadlines.

The Archives of the Episcopal Church does not confirm copyright status for any items outside of the scope of The Domestic and Foreign Missionary Society of the Protestant Episcopal Church, indemnify the user from legal or other action, or provide a definitive statement of public domain status, copyright, or other intellectual property or proprietary rights.
