Harry Scott (H. Scott) Kirby was born on May 6, 1938, in Richmond, Virginia. After graduating with his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Richmond in 1960, he earned his Master of Divinity from General Theological Seminary in 1963. Over his long career, he served at many churches in Wisconsin and New York as well as in the community, including as the chaplain to the police department in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
At the diocesan level, Kirby served (among other roles) as the Chairman of the Long Range Planning Committee, Chair of the Commission on Ministry, and Deputy to General Convention. At the national level, he was a member of the Title IV Committee; served on the Council of Advice to the President of the House of Deputies, and chaired the Committee on the State of the Church.
Kirby passed on January 22, 2024 at the age of 85.
