NEW YORK CITY: Bishop Gene Robinson to speak at General Seminary
"Building Inclusive Communities" will be the subject of an address by Bishop Gene Robinson of New Hampshire on October 12 at the General Theological Seminary (GTS) in Chelsea.
The address, which will begin at 7 p.m., will be preceded by an outdoor reception at 6 p.m., in the Seminary's gardens.

CAMBRIDGE, Massachusetts: Screening of "Traces of the Trade"
Episcopal Divinity School will host a special screening on October 12, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m., of the rough cut of "Traces of the Trade: A Story from the Deep North" in which producer/director Katrina Browne tells the story of her New England ancestors, the largest slave-trading family in U.S. history.

BERKELEY, California: Bonnie Anderson to lecture at CDSP
Bonnie Anderson, president, House of Deputies to the General Convention of the Episcopal Church, will give the third annual St. Margaret's Lecture titled "When Did I Call You Friend?" on October 13, at Church Divinity School of the Pacific, in Berkeley, California.
Introductory remarks will be provided by Presiding-bishop elect Katharine Jefferts Schori, CDSP alum, 1994 and 2001. The lecture supports the seminary's efforts to establish the St. Margaret's Chair for Women and Ministry, at CDSP.

LOS ANGELES, California: Solo Journeys set for weekend event in Los Angeles
Solo Journeys, an Episcopal Church ministry to the divorced, widowed and never married, will hold its next conference in the Diocese of Los Angeles, October 13-14 titled "Rewriting My Story—Brothers and Sisters of Abraham and Sarah: Singling on a New Frontier."
Keynote speaker will be Kay Collier McLaughlin Ph.D., director of Singles Ministry for the Episcopal Church, director of communications for the Diocese of Lexington, Kentucky, and founder and national director of Solo Flight Conferences.
Cost for the weekend, including reception, breakfast and lunch, will be $50 per person. Some retreat center rooms are available for an additional cost. Limited scholarships are available.

BENNINGTON, Vermont: An introduction to anti-racism awareness workshop
St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Bennington, Vermont will host an anti-racism awareness workshop aimed at teaching participants how to work together to build bridges among all people on October 14, 8:30 a.m.-3:p.m.
The day will consist of one-on-one and all-group discussions, videos, as well as several exercises that will help all in attendance begin to understand the issue of racism and especially the concept of "white privilege."

NEW YORK CITY: Interchurch Center host first women in religion conference
More than 60 female religion educators, leaders, activists and scholars representing many faiths from around the world will present in New York October 17-19 at the first "Conference on Women in Religion in the 21st Century: Commemorating, Celebrating, and Continuing Their Legacy."
Sponsored by the Interchurch Center, home to more than 60 faith and non-profit agencies, the conference will look at the role of women in the history of religion, as well as those relationships in the future.
In addition, the conference will honor Ruth Stafford Peale, first woman chair of the Board of Trustees who was a guiding force in the establishment of the Interchurch Center. Ruth, with her husband, the late Dr. Norman Vincent Peale, started Guideposts ministries in upstate New York.
The conference begins at 10 a.m. on October 17, and concludes at 3 p.m. on October 19.

HARRISBURG, Pennsylvania: Consecration of the Rev. Dr. Nathan D. Baxter
The consecration of the Rev. Dr. Nathan D. Baxter as Bishop of Central Pennsylvania will take place on October 21, at the Zembo Temple, 2801 N. 3rd Street.
The preacher for the consecration will be the Most Rev. Desmond Mpilo Tutu, Anglican archbishop emeritus of Cape Town, South Africa, and the winner of the 1984 Nobel Peace Prize. The Most Rev. Frank Griswold, Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church, will be the chief consecrator.
Seating for the event is open; no tickets are required, and the Central Pennsylvania and diocesan community are invited to join in the celebration. Parking is available in the Temple parking lot.
The consecration activities will begin at 10 a.m., with a Gospel Music Fest featuring the State Choir of the Pennsylvania Churches of God and Christ and the Lancaster McCaskey Senior High School Gospel Chorus. Choirs from Episcopal, Lutheran, and Methodist congregations in Central Pennsylvania have also been invited to participate in the liturgical choir.

CLEVELAND, Ohio: Biblical storytelling festival and honors cathedral canon
On October 21, 9:30 a.m. - 5 p.m., Trinity Cathedral will present the Joseph P. Russell Memorial Storytelling Festival featuring master storytellers Donald Davis, Barbara McBride-Smith and Corinne Stavish and Cleveland storyteller Beverly Lloyd. The event, which will include large-group plenary sessions and small workshops, is designed for storytellers, interfaith religious educators, clergy and those interested in learning more about storytelling.
The festival will also present a free concert storytelling which will be open to the public 7:30 - 9:30 p.m. In addition, a freewill offering will be collected. All three master storytellers will give the sermon at Trinity Cathedral's 9 am and 11:15 a.m. services on October 22.

The state of Alabama will be honored October 22 at the 11 a.m. service at Washington National Cathedral. As part of its national ministry, Washington National Cathedral has for many years individually honored each state in the union. During worship services, the government and people of that state are prayed for.

NEW YORK CITY: Fosdick Convocation set for fifth year
Under the theme "For the Living of These Days," Riverside Church's Fifth Fosdick Convocation on Preaching is set for October 23-26, at church. The Fosdick Convocation, named for Riverside's founding pastor Harry Emerson Fosdick, calls on progressive Christians to renewed vigor in challenging times. This year’s speakers will include the Rev. Barbara Brown Taylor, an Episcopal priest and professor of religion at Piedmont College in Georgia; Bishop Barbara C. Harris, the first woman elected bishop in the Episcopal Church; and Diana Butler Bass, senior fellow at the Cathedral College of the Washington National Cathedral in Washington, D.C.
The Convocation has been jointly sponsored by Auburn Theological Seminary, Union Theological Seminary, Drew University Theological School, General Theological Seminary, New York Theological Seminary, Yale University Divinity School, Cathedral College in Washington D.C., Trinity Church-St. Paul's Chapel, and New Brunswick Theological Seminary.

SCOTTSDALE, Arizona: Second annual Healing Mission Weekend
St. Anthony on the Desert will present the Healing Presence of Christ, a healing mission weekend hosted by the St. Anthony Chapter of the Order of St. Luke the Physician and the Daughters of the King October 28-29.
This year's mission will welcome the Rt. Rev. William Frey, retired Bishop of the Diocese of CO and a dynamic speaker on the subject of health and ministry, as keynote speaker for the weekend; and the Rev. Brad Berglund, director of Reinventing Sunday, an ecumenical ministry that offers worship consulting, worship renewal seminars, and workshops on Taize-style worship.
The weekend will feature worship in the style of Taize, including how congregations may start this style of worship in their own services; a Healing Arts and Ministries Exhibition; a children’s program and the keynote address given by Frey and his wife Barbara.

Trinity, Wall Street and the Diocese of Texas have partnered to produce a live Internet conference at no cost for participating congregations or individuals. Simply log on to the website at the scheduled time to hear General Charles Bolden, a retired astronaut and Marine Corps General; New York playwright Jennifer Jones and the Rev. Jeff Fisher, former Chief Financial Officer for Hand Benefits and Trust in Houston and now rector of St. Alban's, Waco. Each will share how they share their faith with coworkers and colleagues in an engaging dialogue followed by a live question and answer session from across the country.
Most of us feel like apprentices when it comes to living and sharing our faith in the workplace. Knowing how to integrate our Sunday worship experience into our day-to-day life is challenging and yet it is part of our Baptismal promises. Gather a group at your church, host members from surrounding congregations and engage with us in a lively discussion of our calling as Christians. You will go away better equipped to live your faith at work.
After the hour-long Internet broadcast, local congregations may engage in small group work for an additional hour to share their own experiences and respond to the lessons they have learned.

FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas: Phyllis Tickle to speak at St. Paul's
St. Paul's, Fayetteville, Arkansas, will present Phyllis Tickle, November 5, 7 p.m., as the next speaker in their McMichael Lecture Series. Her lecture is entitled, "The Church and the Believer."
Tickle, an Episcopalian, is well known for her series of prayers, "The Divine Hours", and the widely-acclaimed and best-selling trilogy "Stories from The Farm in Lucy." In her current work "The Night Offices," she offers prayers, psalms, hymn texts and other readings, covering the hours from late evening to early morning.
For many years she served as contributing editor in religion to Publishers Weekly, and is frequently quoted in sources such as USA Today, Christian Science Monitor, New York Times, PBS, NPR, and the Hallmark Channel.

NATIONAL: Health Ministry in the Small Church: An Introduction
The eMinistry Network, in collaboration with the Episcopal Church Center Office of Congregational Development and the National Episcopal Health Ministries, will sponsor two one-hour teleclass entitled "Health Ministry in the Small Church: An Introduction" on November 9, 8 p.m. (EST) and November 14, 4 p.m. (EST.)
Health Ministry in a local congregation is an intentional ministry focusing on both healing and health, and combining the ancient traditions of the Christian community and the knowledge and tools of modern health care. The class will have a focused presentation of information along with plenty of time for questions and answers.
These free sessions are open to anyone from a congregation of 70 or less and are interested in learning about health ministries and how to incorporate health ministry as part of pastoral care and outreach in their congregation.
The Rev. Jean Denton, senior associate rector at St. Paul's Indianapolis, and Maryfran Crist, regional representative for National Episcopal Health Ministries and a parish nurse in rural Illinois, will lead.

RICHMOND, Virginia: 'Going Forward Together: Third Millennium Christianity'
St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Richmond, Virginia and the Cathedral of St. Philip, Atlanta, will host "Going Forward Together: Third Millennium Christianity" at St. Stephen's, November 16-19.
The conference will combine networking in "best practices" for local church leaders with presentations by a distinguished group of international speakers reflecting on the changing shape of Christianity in First and Two-Thirds World cultures.
Participants will attend panel discussions and plenary sessions with such speakers as authors Phyllis Tickle, Brian McLaren and Diana Butler Bass, and "emerging church" leaders Karen Ward and Peter Rollins.
An international panel composed of Jenny Te Paa, theologian and educator in New Zealand and the only lay indigenous woman appointed head of an Anglican Theological College; Bishop David Beetge, an Anglican from South Africa; Bishop Mano Rumalshah, an Anglican from Pakistan; and Sathi Clarke from India, who now teaches at Wesley Seminary, will consider the church and the culture from a different and enlightening perspective.
The panel will be moderated by William L. Sachs, director of the recently-formed Center for Reconciliation and Mission, Richmond, Virginia.

WESTBOROUGH, Massachusetts: Christian Education Network set for November
The Christian Education Network of the Episcopal dioceses in New England are set to sponsor, "God's Story - Our Story: At All Times and In All Places" Christian Formation: Generation to Generation, November 17-18, at the Doubletree Hotel in Westborough, Massachusetts. Children, youth, young adults and adults will be engaged in experiential activities for sharing their Christian story through art, worship, prayer, storytelling at home, in church and in the community. Concrete ideas will be presented and experienced so that all ages can take new ideas back home to use and practice again with family, friends and neighbors.
The main presenter will be Masankho Kamsisi Banda, a multi-disciplinary performing artist, educator, spiritual healer and peace builder from Oakland, California. He will weave his skill of storytelling, dance and drumming from his Malawian culture.
The Rev. Mark and Kathy Bozzuti-Jones, of St. Bartholomew's Church, New York City, will also lead. Their passions include liturgical renewal, spiritual development and writing for children and adults.
In addition to experiential workshops and worship, "The Discovery Center" will be available for hands-on learning throughout the event as well as a bookstore.

Highlights this fall of the 2006-2007 concert season of the Cathedral Choral Society, directed by J. Reilly Lewis and based at Washington National Cathedral, include a performance by the Choir of Westminster Cathedral, directed by Martin Baker, at 4 p.m. October 15 and a performance of Bach's Mass in B Minor at 4 p.m. November 19.
LEXINGTON, North Carolina: Grace Episcopal to host a program of music, poetry
Grace Episcopal Church in Lexington, North Carolina will host “Tapestry: Of Sun and Shadow” on October 15 at 7 p.m.
This program of music, poetry, art, and dance that weaves a fabric of light and dark with a multitude of shades between will look at the way a variety of faiths use light and dark in their practices and beliefs and examine our fear of the darkness, our belief in the light, and reasons why we should reconsider all that the darkness has to offer us. Written by Bonnie Duckworth and Barbara Presnell, it combines original music and poetry with familiar hymns and spirituals and includes readings from work by writers such as F. Scott Fitzgerald, Og Mandino, and Joan Chittister, and texts including the Bible, the Qur'an, and Buddhist teachings. Participating in the program are members of an interdenominational choir, a string ensemble with flute, clarinet, and harp, and readers from the Lexington and Davidson County communities. Music director is Anita Bunce.

Music will honor Presiding Bishop, Phoebe Griswold
On October 22 at 5 p.m., Church of the Heavenly Rest will host a Festive Choral Evensong to celebrate the ministries of Presiding Bishop Frank T. Griswold and his wife, Phoebe.
The evensong will feature two anthems with texts by the Presiding Bishop set to music by composer Bruce Saylor and the offering from this service will be donated to Anglican Women's Empowerment (AWE), of which Phoebe is a founding member.
Featured works to be performed include:
Anthem: "Welcome the Morning Star", Scored for a cappella SATB choir, for the University Choir, Harvard University, Edward Jones, organist and director of Music;
Anthem: "The Power of Your Love", Scored for three treble voices and a cappella mixed choir, commissioned by Summerfest, Saint James Cathedral, Chicago in honor of the 10th Anniversary of Griswold's consecration as Bishop of Chicago;
"Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis in G" by Bruce Saylor. Composed in memory of Giovanni Conticello;
