Clergy Deployment Board Sets Priorities
Episcopal News Service. December 30, 1976 [76405]
NEW YORK, N.Y. -- The Episcopal Church's Board for Clergy Deployment has set as its first priority for 1977 the setting up of a new system for the open listing of vacancies for the benefit of the clergy, as authorized and funded by the General Convention of the Church last September.
The Rev. Roddey Reid, executive director of the Clergy Deployment Office, told the board that he expected the system to be operative by July 1, 1977. He said that it will provide two kinds of information for the clergy in the beginning.
The first service is a list of openings in each province of the Church, together with sufficient information so that the clergy can decide whether or not they have the skills and experiences required for the positions.
The system will also provide a list of openings that match the requirements submitted by the clergy. No charges will be made for these information services in the case of unemployed clergy, Fr. Reid said, though there probably will be a schedule of fees for other clergy.
The board also set as priorities the goal of accomplishing the training of at least 90 percent of the diocesan deployment officers by the end of 1977, and the continued developrnent of the national office as an instrument for special assistance to clergy, with an emphasis on women clergy in 1977.
Bishop Lloyd E. Gressle of the Diocese of Bethlehem was elected chairman of the board and Dr. Charity Waymouth of Maine was re-elected vice chairman.
