Pool-Yeung Cheung Elected Bishop Of Taiwan

Taipei, Taiwan -- The Rev. Pool-Yeung Cheung, 59, a canon in the Diocese of Hong Kong, was elected here Bishop of Taiwan at a special Diocesan Synod held on February 13.
Canon Cheung obtained the canonical majority of the clergy and lay votes on the first ballot.
Canon Cheung was ordained deacon in 1966 and priest in 1967. He has held many diocesan posts in the Diocese of Hong Kong.
He holds degrees from the Nanking University and Union Theological College in Hong Kong. At the present time, he is studying diocesan administration and clergy counselling at Salisbury and Wells Theological College in England.
Father Cheung will succeed the Rt. Rev. James TeMing Pong, 67, Bishop of Taiwan, when he retires January 7, 1980.
The Taiwan Episcopal Church is part of the Episcopal Church in the United States but the Hong Kong Diocese is part of the Council of the Church in East Asia, the local Anglican jurisdiction.
