Diocesan Press Service. June 10, 1971 [94-2]
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The Board for Theological Education of the Episcopal Church announced here the awarding of grants to four theological seminaries of the Episcopal Church.
Under its canonical mandate, the Board annually awards grants from a fund which was established under the will of the late William Shubael Conant. The fund was established to provide income for the improvement of theological education through the payment of salaries to selected teachers in the theological seminaries of the Episcopal Church.
At a recent meeting here the Board for Theological Education announced that the following distribution of Conant Fund income be made for the three-year period beginning with the academic year 1971-72:
* Episcopal Theological School, Cambridge, Mass.: $6,000 to be designated as partial payment of the salary of the Director of Field Education.
* General Theological Seminary, New York City: $6,000 to cover a portion of the salary of a lecturer in Pastoral Training and full member of that department.
* Nashotah House, Nashotah, Wis.: $2,700 to provide extra compensation for and expenses of faculty members engaged in a program to gain faculty and student contacts with Roman Catholic schools in the area.
* Virginia Theological Seminary, Alexandria, Va.: $3,000 (for the academic year 1971-72 only) for its share of the salary of a fulltime Director of the Washington Theological Consortium.
In addition, Seminario Episcopal del Caribe and The School of Theology of the University of the South are recipients during the 1970-71 academic year in the amounts of $4,000 and $2,000 respectively.
