Appeal Leaders to be Named

Diocesan Press Service. January 10, 1963 [VI-1]

A national appeal to befriend Cuban refugees in the United States will come into sharp focus in each diocese and missionary district this month. The Presiding Bishop has asked each diocesan bishop to appoint a local chairman for the emergency. appeal. The diocesan chairman will work with others in the diocesan organization to direct the program locally, assisted by materials provided by National Council.

Gifts of the Episcopalians for relief and resettlement of the 100,000 Cubans now "on our doorstep" are being administered through the Presiding Bishop's Fund.

In each diocese departments of Christian social relations, promotion and world relief as well as Episcopal Churchwomen, keymen and others will be asked to provide leadership in carrying the emergency appeal authorized by National Council in December to every Parish and Mission.

Each parish will receive display posters and other materials to emphasize the appeal in February. Also scheduled for early release is a filmstrip describing the needs of Cubans in the Miami area as well as the program for resettlement throughout the nation.
