Resolution Number: 1988-D176
Title: Express Pain and Prayers Concerning Hostilities With Iran
Legislative Action Taken: Concurred As Amended
Final Text:

Resolved, That this 69th General Convention of the Episcopal Church in the United States of America, as people of the book, offer our prayers to the one God, and express our sharing of the pain to the people of Iran and Dubai, and especially to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives in the aircraft incident over the Persian Gulf 3 July 1988; and be it further

Resolved, That this Convention also offer its prayers to God for the protection of all military personnel serving in the Persian Gulf and that their service may contribute to the advent of peace in that troubled part of the world; and be it further

Resolved, That this Convention, recognizing that armed hostilities between nations frequently result in death and injury to innocent non-combatants and that this, in turn, can further impede peacemaking efforts, urge the Islamic Republic of Iran, all other countries of the region and the United States Government to let this tragic event increase their efforts toward peace rather than to allow it to exacerbate the obstacles to peace now existing in the region and between these nations.
