Charles Crump was born in 1913, and studied law at the University of Virginia. He was an active lawyer in the Crump family firm in Memphis, Tennessee, until his retirement in 2008 at the age of 95, having practiced law since 1937, with a three-year hiatus in 1943 during which he served as a Navy intelligence officer during the Second World War. He represented Shelby County in the House of Representatives for three sessions. Mr. Crump was a lay deputy to General Convention from 1957 to 2006, and was active in diocesan and regional leadership in Tennessee, attending every Annual Convention as a delegate beginning in 1983 and serving on the diocesan Standing Committee. Crump was legendary for his long service, his dedication to the Church, and his unique sartorial taste. He passed away in August of 2010.
