1978 Lambeth Conference. The opening and closing eucharistic services -- on July 23 and August 13 respectively -- of the decennial Lambeth Conference will be held at Canterbury Cathedral. Archbishop Donald Coggan of Canterbury will preach at the first service and Presiding Bishop John M. Allin of the U. S. Episcopal Church will preach at the closing service. Some 440 bishops will come from 25 independent Anglican churches or provinces and from 100 countries for the three-week conference which will be held at the near-by University of Kent.
