Anglican Bishop Desmond Tutu, general secretary of the South Africa Council of Churches, has been forced to surrender his passport by the officials of the government of South Africa because of his opposition to apartheid practices in that country. Presiding Bishop John M. Allin of the Episcopal Church has joined a large number who have protested the restrictions placed on the Anglican prelate. Dr. Charles R. Lawrence, President of the Church's House of Deputies, has joined the Presiding Bishop to ask South African officials to reconsider the action.
