The Rev. Linda Tyson, Pastoral Leadership Search Effort (PLSE) coordinator, in the Episcopal Church's Office for Ministry Development, will resign effective January 31 to commence duties as acting director of studies at Berkeley Divinity School at Yale, in New Haven, Connecticut.

Tyson, who begins work half-time on January 8, will assist with the organization and supervision of the Anglican studies program, and be available to students to encourage their progress through their seminary studies.

"Lynda Tyson has served as PLSE coordinator for the past one and a half years in an exemplary way," said the Rev. Melford Holland, coordinator of the Episcopal Church’s Office for Ministry Development. "Under her leadership the national effort to encourage younger persons to consider a vocational life within the church, including ordained ministry, has been strengthened. PLSE has transitioned from a program initiated by the Fund for Theological Education [FTE] to one that is now embedded within the Episcopal Church. We are indeed grateful for her imaginative and steady leadership in this important effort."

Tyson's appointment at Berkeley will enable her to continue her work at St. Luke's Parish in Darien, Connecticut, as assisting clergy.

The PLSE initiative by the FTE was guided in the Episcopal Church by a PLSE Steering Committee, chaired by the Rev. Dr. Don Thompson, general secretary of the Colleges and Universities of the Anglican Communion (CUAC). Other staff and agencies in partnership with the project have been the Episcopal Church Foundation, the Ministries with Young People Cluster, the National Association of Episcopal Schools, the Offices of Ethnic Congregational Development, the Church Pension Group, the Consortium of Endowed Episcopal Parishes, and the Office for Ministry Development.

Holland said that although the staff position for PLSE is presently located in the Office for Ministry Development, the work continues to be one of broad collaboration.

A newly constituted PLSE Advisory Committee met January 5 to engage the process needed to secure needed leadership for this effort and to develop further PLSE vocational work in the programs and structures of the church.
