Dr. Parker J. Palmer, founder and senior partner of the Center for Courage and Renewal, in Bainbridge Island, Washington, will offer three plenary addresses and two workshops at the National Association of Episcopal Schools' (NAES) biennial conference, set for November 6-8, in Tampa, Florida. Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori, honorary chair of the NAES governing board, will serve as celebrant and preach the sermon at the conference's opening Eucharist.

Held in the fall of even number calendar years, the biennial conference serves as the primary public forum for the examination of the leadership, governance and Episcopal identity of Episcopal schools and for the professional development of the dedicated men and women from around the Episcopal Church and parts of the Anglican Communion who lead, support and teach in them.

Palmer, a writer, teacher and activist whose ideas resonate with people in many walks of life, including education, medicine, religion, business, philanthropy and social change, will address the plenary breakfast and luncheon on November 7, and a closing session on November 8. His workshops, one for teachers and the other for administrators, will be limited to 60 participants each and require pre-registration.

Palmer's commitment to renewing the spirit of teachers has inspired the Parker J. Palmer "Courage to Teach Award" given each year by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

He was named one of the 30 most influential senior leaders in higher education, and one of the 10 major "agenda-setters" of the past decade. His work has been recognized with 10 honorary doctorates and two Distinguished Achievement Awards from the National Educational Press Association and he is the recipient of major grants from the Danforth Foundation, the Lilly Endowment and the Fetzer Institute.

Featured in the New York Times, NPR, CBS-TV and the Chronicle of Higher Education, Palmer is a member of the Religious Society of Friends (Quaker). He resides in Madison, Wisconsin.
