The first issue of Episcopal News Monthly is off the press and hitting mailboxes nationwide, offering the latest compilation of news from Episcopal News Service.

"This new monthly publication is just one way to tell the church's story. Those ways range from ink on paper to the church's 140-character-per-tweet Twitter page," said the Rev. Mary Frances Schjonberg, ENM editor. "They are all aimed at showing the world how Episcopalians live out the gospel.”

The Episcopal Church Office of Communication continues its legacy of award-winning coverage of news and in-depth issues of interest to Episcopalians and people of faith worldwide. In addition to ENM, other ways to tell the church’s story include online daily news reported and produced by ENS, weekly bulletin inserts, and, planned for the future, a feature-focused quarterly magazine to be aimed at telling stories of faith in action.

"The Office of Communication is committed to providing news and information about the Episcopal Church in a fair and balanced way,” said Anne Rudig, director of communication. "Our different formats and publications allow us to tell the story of the good work of our church and its people."

More than 109,000 households will receive the first issue of ENM, which replaces the award-winning, 20-year-long running Episcopal Life.

"I look forward to building upon the legacy established by our predecessor, Episcopal Life, of telling the story of the Episcopal Church's mission and ministry in compelling, surprising and engaging ways," Schjonberg said.

Rudig named Schjonberg editor of ENM in November 2009. She joined ENS in September of 2005. She spent nearly 25 years in the weekly and daily newspaper business as a reporter, religion columnist and editor before being ordained in 2000. Schjonberg served as assistant rector at Christ Church in Short Hills, New Jersey, prior to becoming ENS national correspondent. She currently serves as a non-stipendiary assisting priest at Trinity Church in Asbury Park, New Jersey.

Schjonberg holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism and mass communications from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a Master of Divinity degree from Church Divinity School of the Pacific, the Episcopal Church-affiliated seminary in Berkeley, California. She has served on CDSP's board of trustees and recently completed a term as the president of the seminary's Alumni/ae Council. Schjonberg is also a member of the Episcopal Preaching Foundation's board of directors.
