Episcopal Life Media (ELM) is seeking an editor for the 240,000-circulation Episcopal Life monthly newspaper, an award-winning publication printed with 40 local diocesan and parish-based "wrap" editions church-wide.

March 14, 2008 is the deadline for applications to be filed with the Human Resources Management office at the Episcopal Church Center, 815 Second Avenue, New York, NY 10017.

A job posting is online.

The editor's work is focused specifically upon editorial content -- from planning through production -- of each of the paper's 12 monthly print editions. Online and other operations -- including advertising, circulation and marketing -- are staffed by separate units within the ELM group. The editor's work is based at the Church Center's new Los Angeles Regional Office from which ELM's print production projects are coordinated.

An ELM overview of the editor's duties and qualifications states that the "successful candidate will have extensive knowledge of and experience in The Episcopal Church and the Anglican Communion. The editor is a community builder, and a proven journalist committed to balanced, fair and accurate reporting that is at all times 'culturally competent' and affirming of the Church's multicultural contexts.

"The editor writes extensively on contemporary issues related to The Episcopal Church's mission and ministry. The editor will have superior and proven writing, verbal and other communication skills, and the ability to facilitate and encourage dialogue with laity, clergy and others, both within Episcopal/Anglican constituencies and the wider Christian community.

"The editor assures that all deadlines and editorial requirements are met in a timely and responsible manner. The editor collaborates with staff in shaping content, assigns news and features to staff and contracted writers and editors, and supervises departments and columns consistent with editorial objectives.

"The editor works to assure 'convergence' and cross-branding of content with other ELM online and print editions.

"The editor collaborates closely with other managers who oversee advertising, operations and related business functions, including diocesan printing partnerships. The editor also assists in building readership.

"The editor is a leader in carrying out the mission statement approved by ELM's board of governors: 'The mission of Episcopal Life Media is to inform, inspire and involve the people of God by reporting accurately and fairly events and issues in the Church; welcoming a healthy exchange of ideas and opinions; nurturing the ministry to which our baptism calls us.'

Episcopal Life Media -- "an integrated system of web, print, and broadcast communication resources serving Episcopalians, seekers and observers" -- is owned by The Episcopal Church and operated through its Domestic and Foreign Missionary Society (DFMS).
