Toward Columbus: Bulletin Inserts Offered to Help Congregations Prepare for General Convention

Episcopal News Service. May 1, 2006 [050106-1-A]

A series of Sunday bulletin inserts with news about the Episcopal Church and information on the 75th General Convention meeting in Columbus, Ohio, June 13-21, have been launched by the Episcopal News Service.

The "NewsLink Weekly" inserts are now posted on the web pages of the Episcopal News Service (www.episcopalchurch.org/ens) for use by congregations beginning Sunday, May 7.

The inserts, available in English and Spanish, are posted on the ENS website at http://www.episcopalchurch.org/3577_15654_ENG_HTM.htm. Print formats may be downloaded for easy duplication and insertion into a congregational service leaflet or newsletter.

The insert series -- titled "Grow in Understanding" -- provides a teaching tool helpful for congregants who are unfamiliar with the history of the church and the how the convention makes its decisions. Each insert lists resources for further study and reflection.

Series topics are:

* May 7 - The Episcopal Church's beginnings

* May 14 - The Episcopal Church today

* May 21 - Episcopal Church ministries between conventions

* May 28 - The Anglican Communion (and the Convention Octave of Prayer)

* June 4 - How the Episcopal Church is organized for mission

* June 11 - The General Convention

* June 18 - The Presiding Bishop election

A June 25 insert is planned to feature an interview with the 26th Presiding Bishop following his or her election on June 18.

The series' design format is black-and-white on half of an 8.5" by 11" sheet double-sided. The inserts are in PDF form so that they can be easily downloaded, reproduced, cut in half and inserted in Sunday bulletins.

Also in production for future use is another format -- a full 8.5"-by-11" double-sided sheet -- that will also offer photographs and expanded information.
