Uniting to address poverty, disease and gender equity among other issues worldwide, Anglican women attending the 49th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW) led a March 6 forum seeking international solutions to expand healthcare, education, and economic justice. Priscilla Julie is a legal practitioner and negotiator from the Seychelles, an island in the Indian Ocean. She notes vital issues facing women today include economic empowerment, collective advancement, improvement of health conditions, and peace promotion. She feels that the women of the church must stand firm and fight together as well as put their faith in the Lord.

Amelia Ward is Chair of the Planning and Development Committee in the Episcopal Church of Liberia, a diocese in the Church of the Province of West Africa. In 2003, a comprehensive peace agreement ended 14 years of civil war in Liberia.

Pauline Sathiamurthy: Church of South India
As general secretary of the Church of South India, Pauline Sathiamurthy is responsible for the executive administration of 22 dioceses. The CSI was inaugurated in 1947 and is one of the four United Churches in the Anglican Communion. Sathiamurthy also serves as the ecumenical relations officer between national and international partner churches.

Lisbeth Barahona Flores: Diocese of El Salvador
Lisbeth Barahona Flores is a social compliance manager and coordinates the social compliance audits in the Central American region, including the Dominican Republic and Mexico. The Diocese of El Salvador forms part of the Iglesia Anglicana de la Region Central de America, one of the newest Provinces in the Anglican Communion. Lisbeth believes that her faith has been the pillar of her ethics and social concern in the competitive, industrial and business world.

Esperanza Beleo: Province of the Philippines
Esperanza Beleo is Lector of St. Andrew's Seminary and finance office of Horeb House, Inc, in the Philippines. Because of her faith she is committed to her work in both the seminary and her parish. Women's issues that Beleo feels are especially important include violence against women and poverty. She also believes that informing and educating children is an important and effective way of improving the world.

Bellina Mangena: Diocese of Natal, Southern Africa
Bellina Mangena is a rector in the Diocese of Natal, Church of the Province of Southern Africa. The most vital part of her ministry is being a source of hope for her parishioners. She believes that women's issues must take into account the preservation and sustenance of life and that God has a purpose for everybody.

Desiderata Niragira & Claudette Kigeme: Anglican Church of Burundi
Desiderata Niragira works as a trainer for the Mothers' Union Literacy and Development Program in Burundi. Claudette Kigeme is a Mothers' Union Provincial Worker in Burundi. They visited New York in March 2005 as a member of the 49th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women.
