LEXINGTON -- Berea College to host Episcopal Youth Event

[ENS, Source: EYE] -- The 2005 Episcopal Youth Event (EYE) will be held July 26-31 at Berea College in Kentucky. EYE describes itself as "a celebration to inspire our deeper faith in Jesus Christ, and a renewed commitment to mission and ministry." Designed and led by a team of youth and adults who represent the rich diversity of the Episcopal Church, EYE invites each diocese to send a delegation to participate fully in the creative worship, music, program, and recreational opportunities that make this 6-day experience life-changing.

MASSACHUSETTS -- Diocese celebrates increased access to affordable housing

[ENS, Source: Diocese of Massachusetts] -- Low-income elders in Boston's Fenway neighborhood now have increased access to affordable housing, thanks to the newly completed $10-million expansion to Episcopal City Mission's Morville House.

The renovation project added 30 new handicapped-accessible units to the 12-story building's existing 147 rent-subsidized apartments. And, bright, airy rooms in the building's new senior center provide space for fitness activities, arts and crafts and television, with a separate library area and rooms for health care services and a hair salon.

On May 12 Massachusetts bishop M. Thomas Shaw, SSJE gathered with city and state officials in a windy courtyard for the renovated building's grand opening ceremony, while residents looked on from inside.

SOUTHWEST FLORIDA -- Standing Committee to suggest coadjutor election in December 2006

[ENS, Source: Diocese of Southwest Florida] -- The Standing Committee of the Diocese of Southwest Florida has announced it will recommend that diocesan convention set a December 9, 2006, date for the election of a bishop coadjutor.

At a meeting May 17, the committee accepted a new timetable proposed by the Nominating Committee that would delay accepting names of potential candidates until June 22, 2006, the day after the Episcopal Church's General Convention adjourns.

The Nominating Committee plans to meet quarterly and continue work on a diocesan profile which they hope to post on the diocesan web site by September, according to co-chair Judy Stark.

The committee will also develop screening criteria, refine its interviewing techniques and confer with its paid consultant, the Rev. David Segar, canon to the ordinary in the Diocese of Northern Indiana.

Bishop John Lipscomb called for the election at the 2004 diocesan convention when he announced his plans to step down in 2009. The coadjutor will serve as an assistant bishop until Bishop Lipscomb resigns.
