Francophone Network issues communiqué, reaffirms commitment to unity

The sixth meeting of the Francophone Network took place July 1-4 in Aylesford, England and included representatives from Canada, Europe, Haiti, and seven African dioceses.
A communiqué issued at the conclusion of the meeting acknowledged that The Francophone Network -- an official body of the Anglican Communion which connects four million people throughout the world who celebrate in the French language -- "experienced a profound desire to reaffirm the primordial importance of the unity of the church, especially in the context of the difficulties that the Anglican Communion is currently facing."
Several resolutions were passed during the meeting in support of francophone provinces and a new executive committee elected, including Bishop Pierre Whalon of the Convocation of American Churches in Europe as president.

La sixième réunion du Réseau francophone de la Communion anglicane a eu lieu à Aylesford, Angleterre, du 1er au 4 Juillet, 2008. Le groupe comprenait des représentants du Canada, d'Europe, d'Haïti, et de sept diocèses africains. D'autres participants ont été empêchés d'y assister à cause de problèmes de visa.
Les évêques et membres du clergé présents ont prié ensemble, partagé et échangé.
Ils ont ressenti un désir profond de réaffirmer l'importance primordiale de l'Unité de l'Église surtout dans le contexte des difficultés que vit présentement la Communion anglicane.
Il s'est avéré que malgré les différences culturelles et les divergences sur certaines questions importantes, ce n'est que par le dialogue et la concertation que l'on peut reconnaître et jouir des richesses que chacun apporte à la Communion et à l'accomplissement de la Mission de Dieu.
Le Réseau francophone, qui relie plus que 4 millions de personnes qui célèbrent en français à travers le monde, est un organisme officiel de la Communion anglicane; il est sous l'égide de l'Archevêque de Cantorbéry. À la fin de cette conférence, les participants ont réaffirmé leur reconnaissance de sa direction pastorale.
Le groupe a aussi reconnu la contribution des provinces et diocèses d'expression française en matière de liturgie et culte. (Une province dans la tradition anglicane est souvent reliée à un pays, et inclus plusieurs diocèses.)
Plusieurs résolutions ont été avalisées lors de cette réunion. Le Comité exécutif a reçu le mandat:
- D'aider les provinces à trouver des moyens pour former des formateurs en éducation théologique, suivant le document « Balises » (Signposts) et les schémas présentés par le comité de Theological Education in the Anglican Communion.
- De former une équipe pour appuyer les provinces et diocèses dans ce travail.
- De recommander aux autorités appropriées de la Communion de constituer un fonds pour l'éducation théologique à l'intention de toutes les provinces, en particulier celles qui ne sont pas anglophones.
- De trouver des partenaires afin d'établir un fonds de $250.000 US destiné à alimenter un programme de microcrédit dans l'Église anglicane du Congo.
- De faire des partenariats pour aider les femmes victimes de violences sexuelles lors de conflits en Afrique.
En plus, les membres présents à la réunion ont décidé de faire un appel d'offre aux provinces francophones pour l'établissement d'un ou deux centres de traduction, afin de pouvoir fournir aux membres du Réseau des traductions rapides et ponctuelles de documents importants, ainsi que d'ouvrages courts destinés au grand public. Le comité exécutif se chargera d'émettre des appels d'offre, et s'engage à trouver un financement pour ces centres.
Un nouvel exécutif a été élu: président, Mgr. Pierre Whalon, France; vice-présidents, Mgr. Zacharie Masimango Katanda, Congo, et le Vénérable Pierre Voyer, Canada; secrétaire, la Rév. Mary Ellen Dolan, Allemagne; trésorier, le Rév. Chanoine David Oliver, Canada; conseillers, Mgr. Ian Ernest, Île Maurice, et la Rév. Muhindo Tsongo Joyce, Congo.
Le Réseau a tenu à remercier de façon officielle l'ancienne équipe en particulier le président sortant, le Très Révérend Ogé Beauvoir et le secrétaire sortant, le Rév. Bernard Vignot. Ceux-ci continueront à travailler pour le Réseau en tant que conseiller et archiviste respectivement.
Félicitations au Rév. Chanoine Jacques Bossière, fondateur du Réseau, qui célèbre cette année ses 89 ans.

The sixth meeting of the Francophone Network took place in Aylesford, England, 1 to 4 July, 2008. The group included representatives from Canada, Europe, Haiti, and seven African dioceses. Other representatives were prevented from attendance due to problems with visas.
The bishops and clergy in attendance prayed together, shared their stories, and exchanged ideas.
They experienced a profound desire to reaffirm the primordial importance of the Unity of the Church, especially in the context of the difficulties that the Anglican Communion is currently facing.
It became clear that, despite cultural differences and disagreements on certain important questions, it is only through dialogue and working together that the riches that each brings to the Communion and the accomplishment of the Mission of God can be recognized and enjoyed.
The Francophone Network, which connects four million people throughout the world who celebrate in the French language, is an official body of the Anglican Communion, under the aegis of the Archbishop of Canterbury. At the close of their meeting, the participants reaffirmed their gratitude for his pastoral leadership.
The group also gave recognition to the contribution of those provinces and dioceses of French language in the areas of liturgy and worship.
Several resolutions were passed during the meeting. The Executive Committee received the mandate to:
- Help francophone provinces to find the means to train professors of theological education, using the "Signposts" document and "grids" proposed by the Theological Education in the Anglican Communion commission;
- Gather a team to support the provinces and dioceses in this work;
- Recommend to the appropriate authorities of the Communion that a fund for theological education for all provinces be raised, in particular for those provinces which are not anglophone;
- Find partners in order to develop a fund of US$250,000 for a microcredit program in the Anglican Church of Congo;
- Develop partnerships to help women victims of sexual violence in recent African conflicts.
Also, the meeting decided that a request for proposals should be sent to all the francophone provinces, calling for the establishment of one or two translation centers, so as to furnish timely translations of important documents, as well as brief books destined for a wide public. The Executive Committee will be in charge of the RFPs, and will commit to help find funding.
A new executive committee was elected: President, Bishop Pierre Whalon, France; Vice-presidents, Bishop Zacharie Masimango Katanda, Congo, and the Ven. Pierre Voyer, Canada; Secretary, the Rev. Mary Ellen Dolan, Germany; Treasurer, the Rev. Canon David Oliver; Advisers, Archbishop Ian Ernest, Mauritius, and Muhindo Tsongo Joyce, Congo.
The Network wishes to thank officially the former committee, especially the former President, the Very Rev. Ogé Beauvoir, and Secretary, the Rev. Bernard Vignot. They will continue to work for the Network as Adviser and Archivist, respectively.
And congratulations to the Rev. Canon Jacques Bossière, founder of the Francophone Network, on the occasion of his 89th birthday.
