EASTON: Carmelite monastery plans open house, chapel dedication

The Episcopal Carmel of St. Theresa in Rising Sun, Maryland, plans an open house October 18 and 19 to celebrate the fifth anniversary of profession of vows of Sister Teresa Irene OCD as the first Carmelite nun in the Episcopal Church or Anglican Communion.

The monastery, including the chapel and enclosure garden, will be open from 8:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. each day. Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams visited the community in 2007.

Members of the community will be available to answer questions about Carmelite life and tours will be provided. More information is available on the community's website or by calling 410-658-6736.

The Episcopal Carmel of St. Theresa is a contemplative community for women. The community has two professed women and 30 associates. Diocese of Easton Bishop James Shand will preside at Eucharist on October 18 and Bishop Visitor Robert Ihloff will preside at Eucharist October 19 when the community's Chapel of St. Theresa will be consecrated.
