EVANSTON, Illinois: Calling Congregations Conference
The Fund for Theological Education is hosting an ecumenical conference September 28-30 in Evanston, Illinois, for exploring the role of congregations in raising up the next generation of church leaders.
The Calling Congregations conference, which is open to all clergy, church staff and lay people, will look at practices and perspectives for supporting the vocational nurture of young people; provide opportunities for networking with others who have concerns in leadership development; and share experiences of congregations where gift discernment and call to ministry are supported.

ENOSBURG FALLS, Vermont: Final Moral Values and Public Policy forum
A series of public forums themed "Moral Values and Public Policy" are being held on Fridays during the month of September at Episcopal churches in Franklin County in Vermont. Through these public forums, Episcopalians in Vermont are supporting the National church's resolutions and opening dialogue with their neighbors about moral stance on public choices and not just private and personal life decisions.
The last forum, on September 29, will take place at historic Grace Episcopal Church, at 215 Pleasant Street in Sheldon. John E, Carroll, professor of Environmental Conservation at the University of New Hampshire, will speak on the topic "Ecological Ethics and Moral Values."
SEATTLE, Washington: 2006 Stewardship Conference
The Episcopal Diocese of Olympia will host "The Four Fields of Giving: A Conference on Nurturing Generosity," September 29-30 at the Seattle Marriott.
Sponsored by the Episcopal Network for Stewardship, and the Diocese of New Westminster, Oregon and Spokane, "The Four Fields of Giving" is an opportunity for participants to learn new and exciting ways to build effective stewardship formation in their diocese and congregation, and return home prepared to share and nurture the message of generosity.

LONG ISLAND, New York: Memorial service for Joyce Hogg
A memorial service for Joyce Hogg, honorary canon of the Cathedral and dedicated communicant of the Diocese of Long Island, is scheduled for September 30, 12 p.m., at the Cathedral of the Incarnation.
Since the early 1970s she served as a volunteer in various capacities in the Diocese, Province II and the National Episcopal Church. She was president and treasurer for the Diocesan Episcopal Church Women, a member of Diocesan Council, vice president and treasurer of Episcopal Charities, and diocesan coordinator for Episcopal Relief and Development. In 1997 she joined the staff of the Presiding Bishop as director of Networks and Special Projects prior to becoming Network Director of Episcopal Relief and Development.
All are welcome to celebrate the life of this most remarkable woman.

FORT WASHINGTON, Pennsylvania: St. Thomas to host interfaith conference
St. Thomas' Church, Whitemarsh, invites you to the "Global AIDS Interfaith Alliance (GAIA)" Conference hosted by the Rev. Dr. Bill Rankin on September 30, from 9–11 a.m. Rankin, founder and president of the Global AIDS Interfaith Alliance (GAIA) and former dean of the Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge, Massachusetts, will offer a presentation about the AIDS epidemic in Malawi – a tiny country in southeastern Africa.

LAS VEGAS, Nevada: Two one day symposiums set to address issues in Nevada
R.A.I.N. (Religious Alliance in Nevada) will hold two one day symposiums—September 30 in Sparks, and October 14 in Las Vegas—highlighting issues in Nevada. Topics of discussion include: Revenue and social programs; Affordable housing; Prisoner re-entry programs; and Affordable and accessible health care.
Holy Cross Catholic Community will be the location of the September 30 event and First Presbyterian Church will host the October 14 gathering. Both events will run from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Cost is $15 and includes lunch.
Some of the invited speakers include: the Governor of Nevada Kenny Guinn; Michael J. Willden, director, Nevada Department of Human Resources, Dan Drinan, executive director of Ridge House, Reno, Nevada; and Senator Steve Horsford, Clark County District #4.
R.A.I.N. provides a forum for cooperative effort among communities of faith in Nevada seeking to address and advocate for social justice issues at the state legislature and in the public arena. ENOSBURG, Vermont: "An Inconvenient Truth" in Enosburg
There will be two screenings of "An Inconvenient Truth," Al Gore's film on global warming, at St. Matthew's Parish Hall, 323 Church Street, Enosburg Falls, October 1, at 3 and 7 p.m.
The evening screening will be introduced by Tom Hughes, executive director of Democracy for America in Burlington. Hughes was on staff with Vice President Gore from 1996 to 2001 and will give some insights into Gore's long-term commitment to the preservation of the environment.
The screenings, sponsored by Interfaith Power and Light, are free and open to the public.
NEW YORK CITY: Harlem parish to host art exhibition
St. Philip's Episcopal Church, in New York City, will celebrate Homecoming Day 2006 in cooperation with Roulette Fine Arts as they present "Sanctuary and Undercroft," an exhibition featuring 19 emerging artists who work for the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
The exhibition will run from October 1 to October 31, and the Artists' Reception will be October 5, 2006 from 6-9 p.m. The exhibition will be on view Sundays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursdays from 1 to 7 p.m., Fridays, and by appointment. Admission is free.

BENNINGTON, Vermont: Free course on energy conservation at St. Peter's
This fall, a free course, open to the public, is being offered at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, in Bennington, Vermont. From the energy we buy and use, to the food we eat, to the clothing we wear, to the modes of transportation we employ, every decision we make has an impact on the earth, "our island home."
The community is invited to join in exploring ways to live simply and responsibly as stewards of God's creation. The course sessions will be offered on Sundays now through November 26, 9:05 to 9:55 a.m., and on Wednesdays, now through November 22, 7 to 8:30 p.m.
Part of this course will include the viewing and discussion of the nationally recognized film on global warming, "An Inconvenient Truth," October 3 at 7 p.m. in the Parish Hall.

DALLAS, Texas: Katie Sherrod to discuss Episcopal Church and Anglican Communion
Fort Worth based writer, producer and commentator Katie Sherrod will give her reflections on the relationship between the Episcopal Church and the Anglican Communion at a meeting of Via Media-Dallas at 7 p.m., October 1, at Church of the Transfiguration, 14135 Hillcrest Road at Spring Valley Road in Dallas. The event is free and open to the public.
A prize-winning journalist, Sherrod is active in the Episcopal Women's Caucus and winner of its 2006 Magdalene Award in recognition of her service to the Church and others. She wrote and produced "Women of the Table", a documentary about the ministries of both lay and ordained women in the Episcopal Church. Married to an Episcopal priest in the Diocese of Fort Worth, she has written extensively about issues regarding the Episcopal Church and its relationship with the Anglican Communion.
Via Media – Dallas is a group of lay and clergy Episcopalians in the Diocese of Dallas that advocates openness, balanced and accurate information, and clarity of thought about issues facing The Episcopal Church. Members of Via Media-Dallas are united in desiring to remain a part of The Episcopal Church and the life and governance thereof.

BENNINGTON, Vermont: St. Peter’s set for the Blessing of the Animals
St. Peter's Episcopal Church will join congregations nationwide in celebrating the feast of St. Francis of Assisi with a festive Eucharist and Blessing of the Animals Service on October 8.
At 9 a.m., there will be an educational program in the parish hall that will provide information about animal-related programs. There will be a pet parade with ribbons for all. At 10 a.m., there will be a procession of the animals into the church where individual blessings will be given for each animal. Following the blessings, the service will continue with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist. Refreshments for all, animals and humans, will follow the Eucharist. Please have appropriate restraints (leash, carrier, bowl, etc.) for your animal. The dogs bark, the cats meow, the hamsters and ferrets tend to be quieter.
You don't have to be a member of St. Peter's to attend the service. All are welcome.

"Building Inclusive Communities" will be the subject of an address by Bishop Gene Robinson of New Hampshire on October 12 at the General Theological Seminary (GTS) in Chelsea.

St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Bennington, Vermont will host an anti-racism awareness workshop aimed at teaching participants how to work together to build bridges among all people on October 14, 8:30 a.m.-3:p.m.
The day will consist of one-on-one and all-group discussions, videos, as well as several exercises that will help all in attendance begin to understand the issue of racism and especially the concept of "white privilege."

NEW YORK CITY: Interchurch Center host first women in religion conference
More than 60 female religion educators, leaders, activists and scholars representing many faiths from around the world will present in New York October 17-19 at the first "Conference on Women in Religion in the 21st Century: Commemorating, Celebrating, and Continuing Their Legacy."
Sponsored by the Interchurch Center, home to more than 60 faith and non-profit agencies, the conference will look at the role of women in the history of religion, as well as those relationships in the future.
In addition, the conference will honor Ruth Stafford Peale, first woman chair of the Board of Trustees who was a guiding force in the establishment of the Interchurch Center. Ruth, with her husband, the late Dr. Norman Vincent Peale, started Guideposts ministries in upstate New York.
The conference begins at 10 a.m. on October 17, and concludes at 3 p.m. on October 19.

SCOTTSDALE, Arizona: Second annual Healing Mission Weekend
St. Anthony on the Desert will present the Healing Presence of Christ, a healing mission weekend hosted by the St. Anthony Chapter of the Order of St. Luke the Physician and the Daughters of the King October 28-29.
This year's mission will welcome the Rt. Rev. William Frey, retired Bishop of the Diocese of CO and a dynamic speaker on the subject of health and ministry, as keynote speaker for the weekend; and the Rev. Brad Berglund, director of Reinventing Sunday, an ecumenical ministry that offers worship consulting, worship renewal seminars, and workshops on Taize-style worship.
The weekend will feature worship in the style of Taize, including how congregations may start this style of worship in their own services; a Healing Arts and Ministries Exhibition; a children’s program and the keynote address given by Frey and his wife Barbara.

NATIONAL: A Live Internet Conference
Join a remarkable panel via the latest technology on October 28 to learn how to share your faith at work.
Trinity, Wall Street and the Diocese of Texas have partnered to produce a live Internet conference at no cost for participating congregations or individuals. Simply log on to the website at the scheduled time to hear General Charles Bolden, a retired astronaut and Marine Corps General; New York playwright Jennifer Jones and the Rev. Jeff Fisher, former Chief Financial Officer for Hand Benefits and Trust in Houston and now rector of St. Alban's, Waco. Each will share how they share their faith with coworkers and colleagues in an engaging dialogue followed by a live question and answer session from across the country.
Most of us feel like apprentices when it comes to living and sharing our faith in the workplace. Knowing how to integrate our Sunday worship experience into our day-to-day life is challenging and yet it is part of our Baptismal promises. Gather a group at your church, host members from surrounding congregations and engage with us in a lively discussion of our calling as Christians. You will go away better equipped to live your faith at work.
After the hour-long Internet broadcast, local congregations may engage in small group work for an additional hour to share their own experiences and respond to the lessons they have learned.

NEW YORK CITY: Saxophonist and organist duo to perform at Holy Apostles
William Powers and Jonathan Hall, saxophone and organ duo, will play, among other pieces, the American première of David Hurd's Sonata for Alto Saxophone and Organ (2006) featuring the superb van den Heuvel organ at Church of the Holy Apostles, 296 Ninth Avenue at 28th Street on October 4, at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets are $10 and $20 and can be purchased at the door on the night of the concert.

NEW BRUNSWICK, New Jersey: Lift Your Voice, Too featuring Horace Boyer
African-American musicologist and editor Horace Clarence Boyer will be in New Brunswick at the Hyatt Hotel on October 7, 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m., to give a lecture presentation on Lift Every Voice and Sing II (LEVAS II), the African-American hymnal published by the Episcopal Church.
Cost is $35 and includes lunch. Checks should be made payable to "Music & Historic Fund at Christ Church." Tickets must be ordered by September 30. Tickets will NOT be available at the door.
Boyer will also speak and conduct at morning services on October 8 at Christ Church, 5 Paterson Street.

NEW YORK CITY: Queens College Orchestra with Stephen Hamilton
Music at Holy Trinity will begin its 2006-2007 concert schedule on October 15 with the Queens College Orchestra with Stephen Hamilton.
Join the orchestra with Maestro Maurice Peress at 4 p.m., as they present Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man and the Symphony for Organ and Orchestra. The concert will conclude with the Sibelius Symphony #5 in One Movement, Opus 82.
Admission is $20 adults and $15 seniors and students. The Church of the Holy Trinity (Episcopal) is located at 316 East 88th Street.

WASHINGTON, D.C.: Cathedral Choral Society concert season begins
Highlights this fall of the 2006-2007 concert season of the Cathedral Choral Society, directed by J. Reilly Lewis and based at Washington National Cathedral, include a performance by the Choir of Westminster Cathedral, directed by Martin Baker, at 4 p.m. October 15 and a performance of Bach's Mass in B Minor at 4 p.m. November 19.

NEW YORK CITY: Celebrating ministries of the Presiding Bishop and his wife
On October 22 at 5 p.m., Church of the Heavenly Rest will host a Festive Choral Evensong to celebrate the ministries of Presiding Bishop Frank T. Griswold and his wife, Phoebe.
The evensong will feature two anthems with texts by the Presiding Bishop set to music by composer Bruce Saylor and the offering from this service will be donated to Anglican Women's Empowerment (AWE), of which Phoebe is a founding member.
Featured works to be performed include:
Anthem: "Welcome the Morning Star", Scored for a cappella SATB choir, for the University Choir, Harvard University, Edward Jones, organist and director of Music;
Anthem: "The Power of Your Love", Scored for three treble voices and a cappella mixed choir, commissioned by Summerfest, Saint James Cathedral, Chicago in honor of the 10th Anniversary of Griswold's consecration as Bishop of Chicago;
"Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis in G" by Bruce Saylor. Composed in memory of Giovanni Conticello;
"Let All the World in Every Corner Sing" by Ralph Vaughan Williams, from "Five Mystical Songs." Performers are the Choir and Choristers of the Church of the Heavenly Rest, Mollie Nichols, director of music, Steven Lawson, assisting organist, Arthur Murray, trumpet.
