National Thanksgiving Webcast, Broadcast Advertising Set

Episcopal News Service. November 17, 2004 [111704-1-A]

Extending an invitation to "Grow in Gratitude," the Episcopal Church will host a national Thanksgiving Day webcast and supporting broadcast advertising anchored from the Washington National Cathedral.

Featuring a welcome from Presiding Bishop Frank Griswold and a sermon preached by Bishop John Chane of Washington, D.C., the webcast will present a liturgy of Morning Prayer and Eucharist reflecting themes that resonate with the uniquely American holiday that is Thanksgiving Day.

Set to begin Thanksgiving Day at 10am Eastern Standard Time, the pre-recorded webcast will be available throughout the holiday weekend at http://www.comeandgrow.org/, will reflect the same liturgical components to be observed in the live 10am Thanksgiving morning liturgy at the cathedral, located at Massachusetts and Wisconsin avenues in Washington, D.C.

The program may also be viewed via satellite television through the coordinates: AMC 9, Transponder K14, Downlink Frequency 11980 Horizontal.

Planners are arranging the program with a view to a more widely aired Thanksgiving Day telecast in 2005.

This year, the Thanksgiving webcast and cathedral liturgy will also be featured in television broadcast spots to be aired Sunday, November 21, and Wednesday, November 24, on CNN Headline News and through its affiliated broadcast in some 42 major airports. A sample of the broadcast ad will be available soon online for previewing at http://www.comeandgrow.org/.

The service and webcast will be further featured in a newspaper advertisement in USA Today on Wednesday, which is known to be one of the heaviest travel days each year.

The newspaper ad further invites readers to attend Advent services beginning Sunday, November 28, in local congregations. The services of some 11 cathedrals and other congregations are featured in the print ad.

The webcast and liturgy, and the efforts to position the program for telecast next year, are the shared project of the Office of Communication at the Episcopal Church Center in New York, and the Public Affairs Office of Washington National Cathedral. Inquiries may be directed to the Church Center Communication Office at 800.334.7626, ext. 6138.
