Annual Thanksgiving Day Broadcast and Events Throughout the Church

"The Episcopal Church Presents: Gulf Coast Thanksgivings," documenting the challenges of rebuilding the Gulf Coast, will be broadcast on the Time Warner Cable network on Thanksgiving Day, November 24.

The 30-minute program, produced by the church's Office of Communication, will air on nearly every Time Warner cable system in the United States. It will also be available at www.comeandgrow.org as a webcast in Windows Media and Real Media versions, in both high and low speeds.

"Gulf Coast Thanksgivings" features excerpts from a November 17 concert at New Orleans' Christ Church Cathedral performed by a 16-member big band from the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra. The concert was part of four days of celebrations marking the cathedral congregation's bicentennial.

LOTHIAN, MARYLAND: Annual 'Messiah' Sing-Along -- The 19th annual 'Messiah' Sing-Along will be held at St. James' Church on November 27 at 4 p.m.

The impromptu performance of part 1 of Handel's great oratorio plus the Alleluia Chorus will be accompanied by a chamber group, harpsichord, trumpet, and organ.

A candlelight reception will follow the performance.

NEEDHAM, MASSACHUSETTS: Mauritian bishop is guest preacher -- Bishop Ian Ernest of Mauritius will be the guest preacher at the November 27, 8:15 and 10:00 a.m. services of Holy Eucharist at Christ Episcopal Church.

Mauritius is a diocese of the province of the Indian Ocean, which includes seven dioceses covering Madagascar, Mauritius, and Seychelles.

Ernest is currently on sabbatical as a proctor scholar studying at Episcopal Divinity School.

SEATTLE, WASHINGTON: St. Mark's Cathedral to present annual Advent Carol service -- St. Mark's Cathedral and Compline Choirs under the direction of organist/choirmaster J. Melvin Butler and Canon Precentor Emeritus Peter R. Hallock will present the annual Advent Procession service of lessons and carols on November 27 at 7 p.m.

Based on the "O Antiphons" this service includes original music by Dr. Hallock as well as chant, carols, and anthems for the Advent season.

This popular service, one of the most mystical and beautiful of the season, includes processions, candlelight, banners, bells, and incense.

WASHINGTON, DC: State Day honors Maine -- The state of Maine will be honored at the November 27, 11 a.m. service at Washington National Cathedral. As part of its national ministry, Washington National Cathedral has for many years individually honored each state in the union. The event will feature Cathedral organist J. Melvin Butler who will play Olivier Messiaen's Suite "La Nativité du Seigneur" while Joanne Snow-Smith, noted University of Washington art historian, will project art masterpieces depicting various scenes of Christ's birth.
