Korean Seminary Dedicates New Building

Diocesan Press Service. November 7, 1966 [48-5]

On Oct. 4 St. Michael's Seminary, Seoul, Korea, celebrated the completion of its new library and class room building. The Rt. Rev. Paul Lee, Bishop of Seoul, dedicated the building, and the Rt. Rev. John Daly, Bishop of Taejon, addressed the faculty, students and guests.

Over 140 people attended the dedication, even though it was a working day. Among those present were Roman Catholic priests and nuns, and ministers and teachers of various Protestant churches.

With the installation of central heating, to be completed by the end of November, the building will be ready for year-round use, although the seminarians are already enjoying the new facilities.

The building was made possible, in large part, through a gift from the Diocese of Pittsburgh. This gift, of $40,000 over a two year period, was sent as a response to needs listed in the Projects for Partnership Directory.

St. Michael's also received a gift from the Diocese of Virginia of $15, 000 to help cover this year's operating expenses, again a need listed in the Directory.

This substantial investment in one institution indicates the increasing concern with training indigenous clergy in younger churches of the Anglican Communion, for this project, and others like it, were given priority by these younger churches themselves.
