Devotional Aid for North American Anglicans Published

Diocesan Press Service. October 14, 1975 [75346]

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- The primates of the two North American Anglican churches have announced the publication of an experimental devotional aid entitled Partners in Prayer.

The Rt. Rev. John M. Allin, Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church in the U.S., and the Most Rev. Edward W. Scott, Primate of the Anglican Church of Canada, undertook the project. They recently sent a copy of the 128-page, pocket-size book to all the bishops of the Anglican Communion, with the hope that the bishops would find it "convenient and informative. "

The manual, designed for use in 1976, seeks "to provide additional information concerning the identity and location of those within the Anglican Communion's 'Cycle of Prayer, '" according to Bishop Allin. "While we continue to share the 'Cycle of Prayer,' sponsored by the Anglican Consultative Council," Bishop Allin wrote to Anglican bishops, " it is hoped this convenient manual will enable us, in the course of praying together, to increase our awareness of each other and of the places and people we are serving throughout the world. "

Beginning with Advent, 1975, the book is intended primarily for North American use, focusing prayers each day of the year on a particular diocese of the Anglican Communion, its bishop, and a key concern as a guide to intercession.

Bishop Allin said that he and Archbishop Scott hope the daily use of the book "will also continually remind us daily to pray for those in every land who are outside of the Anglican Communion. "

The "Cycle of Prayer" will appear in its regular format for 1976. Partners in Prayer is available from Forward Movement Publications, 412 Sycamore Street, Cincinnati, Ohio 45202, U.S.A., for $1.00 per copy (prices for quantity available).
