New York

On May 18 the General Theological Seminary here formally accepted the Bayne Collection of pamphlets, articles, correspondence, sermons and personal memorabilia of the late Episcopal Bishop Stephen F. Bayne, eighth dean of the seminary and former executive officer of the Anglican Communion. The Collection was donated to the seminary by the bishop's widow, Lucie C. Bayne, who resides in Seattle, in the diocese of Olympia where her husband was bishop from 1947 to 1960. Bishop Bayne died in 1974. The Collection is housed in a room especially equipped for this purpose in St. Mark's Library and the entire material has been reproduced on microfiche.

Washington

The Rt. Rev. William H. Marmion, retired Episcopal Bishop of Southwestern Virginia, has been named interim warden of the College of Preachers at the Washington Cathedral by the diocese's bishop, the Rt. Rev. John T. Walker. He will serve in this capacity for approximately one year while the work of the college will be assessed by its council and a search is conducted for a permanent warden. Marmion will replace the Rev. Canon Clement W. Welsh, who is retiring in June.

Minneapolis

The Rev. Jeanette R. Piccard, who gained fame with her husband as a balloonist and who became one of the first American women to be ordained an Episcopal priest, died here on May 17 of cancer. She was 86 years old. She and her husband, the Swiss scientist Jean Piccard, won fame when they explored the stratosphere in balloons during the 1930s. She received a Ph.D. degree from the University of Minnesota in 1942 and began her theological studies in 1970. She was one of 11 women who participated in the historic and controversial ordination service in Philadelphia in 1974, two years before the Episcopal Church General Convention approved women's ordinations to the priesthood.

New York

The Episcopal Church Presiding Bishop's Fund for World Relief has announced an emergency grant of $2,500 to the Diocese of San Diego for the Mennonite Disaster Service to assist flood victims in the Lake Elsinore area. The grant will assist in a cleanup operation in the area following severe flooding extending over a period of two years. The expenses of volunteer laborers who helped repair damaged homes will be reimbursed from the funds.

New Orleans

The Triennial Committee has announced that the theme for the 1982 sessions of the Triennial Meeting of the Women of the Episcopal Church will be "Go Forth into the World." The issues which will be addressed at the meeting here at the Hilton Hotel are spiritual growth, the family and the environment. The women's meeting will begin Sept. 5, 1982, with participation in the opening Eucharist of the General Convention of the Episcopal Church in the Rivergate Exhibition Center. The women's sessions will continue until noon on Sept. 14, twenty-four hours before the Convention adjourns.
