Sea Sunday Announced

Episcopal News Service. June 9, 1988 [88131G]

LONDON (DPS, June 9) -- Sea Sunday, July 10, has been included in the Anglican Cycle of Prayer, according to the Anglican Consultative Council. The worldwide Anglican family is asked to set this day aside to pray for seafarers who spend long periods away from home, family, and community, and face the dangers of the sea, in performing the duties that help keep world trade moving. Anglicans are also asked to pray for other Christian groups who have ministries to seafarers.

During the week following Sea Sunday, lay and ordained people from all over the Anglican Communion with ministries to seafarers will meet in a conference at Churchill College, Cambridge. Discussions will include ecumenism, interfaith dialogue, and the promotion of justice for seafarers whose dignity as human beings is in danger.

There will be observers from other Christian groups at the Cambridge conference. There has been great interest in Sea Sunday among Roman Catholics and Protestant groups around the world.
