NEW YORK (DPS, Nov. 23) -- The Mission Issues and Strategy Advisory Group (MISAG), the international forum for mission in the Anglican Communion that was initiated by the Anglican Consultative Council in 1981, will meet at Emmaus Conference Center in Kent, England, December 2-7.

The work of MISAG is to review, identify, and explore mission issues in the Church in relation to modern ecumenical, theological, and social developments; to review the Partners in Mission process in the Communion; and to respond to requests from member Churches for help in their mission planning and strategy.

Impetus for this year's forum comes from the 1988 Lambeth Conference, which met during the summer. The bishops of the Anglican Communion made mission a priority for the Church.

The Lambeth Conference, which takes place once in every decade, resolved to make the closing years of the twentieth century a "Decade for Evangelism" and encouraged all Anglicans, in cooperation with other Christians, to support this ecumenical initiative (Resolution 43). The Conference also called upon all bishops to give a strong support in the ministry of prayer "so that we may know God's will for our time and be empowered for the mission of the Lord Jesus Christ" (Resolution 71).

The MISAG forum is an important first step in interpreting and implementing the Lambeth resolutions on mission.
