The Episcopal Church Center is accepting applications for the position of Deputy for Anglican Relations. The position will be based at the Domestic & Foreign Missionary Society's head-quarters at the Episcopal Church Center in New York City. The incumbent will report directly to the Presiding Bishop. The position will comprise a part of the Senior Executive Group of the Presiding Bishop's staff at the Church Center.

The purpose of the position is to provide consultative and coordinative support to enable the Presiding Bishop to most effectively and responsively exercise his post as Primate in relation to the Anglican Communion. In support of the Presiding Bishop's role as Judicatory of the Episcopal Church, this position will manage the integrated response of the Church to the Christian community and other faith alliances.

Primary accountabilities of this appointed staff post will be:

  • The initiation and maintenance of staff relationships and liaisons between and regarding partnership councils, coalitions, standing committees, commissions, and agencies of the Society's Executive Council.
  • The development of statements on behalf of the Presiding Bishop, assuring accurate communication of the Presiding Bishop's pastoral intent.
  • The provision of logistical travel assistance for the Presiding Bishop's journeys, assuring an effective flow of events in support of theThe collaboration with the staff at the Church Center, assuring the effective integration of program priorities, objectives, and activities with world wide pastoral and political positions, intentions, and pronouncements.   • The consultation with key officials and Church representatives within the Communion, assuring that concerns and issues are clearly understood and communicated to the Presiding Bishop.
  • The coordination with the Presiding Bishop's Deputy for Administration, contributing to an efficient flow of information within the Office of the Presiding Bishop, and effectively coordinating international and domestic relations, priorities, and schedules.

A major challenge of the Deputy for Anglican Relations is to respond to international events and crises with sensitivity, information, and diplomacy. There is a requirement for the incumbent to effectively manage and prioritize flows of information, personal contacts, and communication, and to keep abreast of changing ecclesiastical, political, and social scenes.

All candidates for this post must be active members of the Episcopal Church, with broad and deep experience in the life and polity of the Church, both pastorally and administratively. An ability to deal effectively with clergy and laity of different backgrounds, theology, and political viewpoints is also required. Education gained through advanced degrees in humanities, theology, and Episcopal ordination, as well as diocesan-level experience, is required. The annual salary range for recruitment purposes is from $54,499 to $61,311.
