BALTIMORE (DPS, Feb. 23) -- On February 11, at the same time the consecration of Barbara Harris as the first women bishop in the Anglican Communion was taking place in Boston, people in the Diocese of Maryland were holding a Celebration of a New Ministry service in support of Bishop Harris's new ministry at the Cathedral of the Incarnation in Baltimore.

The celebrant in Baltimore was the Rev. Marie Fleischer, a priest on the diocesan staff. Con-celebrant was the cathedral's dean, the Very Rev. Van H. Gardner.

The Rev. Florence L. Ledyard, rector of Epiphany Church, Dulaney Valley, Maryland, was homilist at the celebration. Her text was John 20:19. "They were hiding behind locked doors," Ledyard said. "They were afraid of their own people. We lock ourselves behind closed doors because we, too, are afraid. But Jesus Christ appeared among them. There is no door that he cannot enter."
