Inter-Anglican Consultation Set for Virginia

Episcopal News Service. October 4, 1991 [91194P]

The Inter-Anglican Theological and Doctrinal Consultation is scheduled to be held at the Virginia Theological Seminary in December. The Most Rev. Robin Eames of Armagh and primate of Ireland has been selected by Archbishop George Carey to chair the consultation. Although "the main task [of the meeting] will be to design the main questions that will be discussed in the future," according to the consultation secretary, the Rev. Dr. Donald Anderson, the issue of authority in the church is expected to be high on the agenda. The consultation will bring together 20 theologians representing the main regions of the Anglican Communion. An Inter-Anglican Theological and Doctrinal Commission first met in 1981, and produced a report that served as a preparatory document for the 1988 Lambeth Conference.
