Ministries with Young People Announces Important Dates

Episcopal News Service. September 21, 1995 [95-1249B]

(ENS) The Episcopal Church Center Ministries with Young People Cluster urged that those dioceses or congregations that have an annual Youth Sunday consider using some of the dates in 1995 already set aside for this purpose by the Episcopal Church and the Anglican Communion.

  • The National Observance of Children's Sabbaths, October 20-22, is sponsored by the Children's Defense Fund, in cooperation with many faith traditions and religious organizations. The observance challenges congregations to pray, preach, study, and act on behalf of children. The focus is on young people under the age of 18. Children's Sabbath resource kits and organizer's manuals are available directly from the Children's Defense Fund at 202-662-3859.
  • Anglican Youth Sunday, November 26, sponsored by the International Anglican Youth Network, is a celebration intended to highlight the ministries of young people throughout the Anglican Communion. The date is included in the 1995 Anglican Cycle of Prayer and the focus is on young people ages 14-25. For a Youth Sunday Resource packet contact CYS, 39 Fitzjohn's Avenue, London NWT 5JT, phone/fax: 011-44-171-435-3596. If possible, a portion of the offering for the day should go to the International Anglican Youth Network in support of ministries with young people throughout the Anglican Communion.
  • The Feast of the Holy Innocents, December 28, is, according to resolution B017a of the last General Convention, "to be observed as a time of prayer for children at risk and remembrance of those who have been victims of violence.. ." The resources listed above, or those created locally, can be used to support the observance of the risks to young people of all ages.
