(ACNS) The inauguration of the new Province of South East Asia, consisting of the three provinces of Sabah, Kuching, and West Malaysia and the Diocese of Singapore, will take place on February 2, 1996. Bishop Moses Tay of Singapore has accepted an invitation from the Archbishop of Canterbury George Carey to become the first archbishop of the new province. Tay is chairman of the Council of Churches of East Asia. Carey said that "the progress toward the establishment of the 37th province of the Anglican Communion is one more sign of the exciting growth which is taking place in Anglicanism at this time. I am convinced that, under the lively and committed leadership of Moses Tay, the Province of South East Asia will continue to prove itself to be one of the most fertile seed beds of Christian mission."
