Church in Jerusalem and the Middle East Elects New Primate

(ENS) Bishop Ghais Malik, bishop of Egypt and North Africa since 1984, has been elected the new president-bishop of the Episcopal Church in Jerusalem and the Middle East, succeeding Bishop Samir Kafity. He is the third primate of the province of the Anglican Communion since its establishment in 1976. Malik was installed November 26 at the closing Eucharist of the church's Central Synod. The province includes four dioceses -- Jerusalem, Iran, Egypt and North Africa, and Cyprus and the Gulf.
