Canterbury Sounds Call for Closely Knit Christian Community

"The Christian Church must act in the years ahead by being a closely knit community in the bond of prayer and worship and fellowship and study, and the members of that community must involve themselves in all of the work of the world and bring Christian judgements to bear upon particular situations within it," said His Grace, The Most Rev. Michael Ramsey, Archbishop of Canterbury, Primate of all England and spiritual head of the worldwide Anglican Communion, during an interview on the nationally broadcast program "Viewpoint, " which is presented weekly by the National Council of the Episcopal Church.

Earlier, when the moderator, the Rev. Dana F. Kennedy asked, "We often hear people say, "We are all heading towards the one God, it makes no particular difference which path you're traveling as long as you're traveling a path." Do you feel this way?" the Archbishop replied, "No I don't feel that way, because if God has given us paths that go straight to him, and are certain to arrive, it's a pity when people use all sorts of circuitous paths that go round and round in circles before they strike home."

Further, the Archbishop stated, '"We stick to dogma because God has revealed to us things about Himself and either they are true or not true. If God is Creator and God is Judge and God has uniquely revealed Himself in Jesus Christ, those aren't relative matters. They are matters that are either absolutely true or absolutely false."

"Viewpoint" is produced by the Division of Radio, Television and Audio Visuals of the National Council and is heard over the Mutual network and 260 other stations across the country.
