British Methodists Black Union Plans with Anglicans

Diocesan Press Service. August 9, 1965 [XXXIV-15]

British Methodists in annual conference voted by a majority of 601 to 14 in favor of seeking closer relations with Anglicans.

By a smaller majority the Conference also gave general approval, with certain reservations, to the main proposals of the joint Anglican- Methodist Conversations Report published two years ago.

The provisions were that before full communion is established between the two churches there must be opportunity for clarification of any points in the Report the Conference might require; and consideration of any amendments submitted by districts and synods.

(The Anglican Convocations of Canterbury and York earlier had voted by large majorities to go ahead with negotiations.)
