Whereas, the Anglican Communion has been sustaining a dialogue with the Roman Catholic Church, seeking points of common convergencies that would lead to an eventual unification of both Churches; and

Whereas, in Latin America, ecumenical relations between both Churches seem difficult; and

Whereas, it is necessary that the Anglican Church in Latin America should initiate direct conversations with our Roman brothers in order to enable a dialogue which will lead to a better understanding and an eventual unification; therefore be it

Resolved, the House of Deputies concurring, That this General Convention and the Anglican Consultative Council establish a direct dialogue between a commission of the Anglican Church in Latin America and a Commission of the Roman Catholic Church in the same region.

Change lines 1 and 2 to read:

"Resolved, the House of Deputies concurring, That this General Convention request the Anglican Consultative Council to seek the establishment of a direct dialogue..."

Seconded by the Bishop of Indianapolis.

On the fifth day, the Committee on Ecumenical Relations presented its Report #17 on B041 (Dialogue) and moved concurrence with House of Bishops Message #81.

Later in the day the House voted to reconsider in order to amend.

The Chair of the Committee on Ecumenical Relations moved reconsideration of B041 because the Mexican deputies wanted to amend but the Resolution was voted before they had a chance to offer an amendment.

Reconsideration approved by two-thirds majority.

Deputy Cespedes of Northern Mexico moved an amendment.

Proposed Amendment:

Add the words, "which may lead to a better understanding between our two communions" following "the same region."

The vote was taken on reconsideration of B041.
