Original Text of Resolution:
Whereas, for some time the dioceses of the Ninth Province have been working toward the formation of an autonomous province, including the extra-provincial dioceses; and
Whereas, during the VIII Synod of 1982 a plan for a province for a trial period of three years was discussed; and
Whereas, during the IX Synod of 1984 which met in Colombia it was evident that the province was not ready to assume autonomy; and
Whereas, in that synod, the Dioceses of Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama decided to unite efforts and constitute a province of the Central Region of America given the mystical and geographical affinities of the dioceses involved; and
Whereas, this province, having as its goals autonomy and self-support thinks that it is timely for an undetermined period of time to keep a structural relationship with the Mother Church and to create a model that can be conducive to our legitimate aspirations; and
Whereas, during the IX Province Synod the Diocese of Panama gave its affirmative vote to the creation of such Central Region of America; therefore be it
Resolved, the House of Deputies concurring, That the 68th General Convention affirm the formation of the Central Region of America as the first step toward the development of an autonomous province within the Anglican Communion; and be it further
Resolved, That the Executive for World Mission be requested to notify the dioceses involved of this action taken at the 68th General Convention.
