Resolved, the House of Bishops concurring, That the 70th General Convention of the Episcopal Church request the President of the United States to lead our nation in an act of repentance for the death of tens of thousands of Iraqi soldiers and civilians, the displacement of hundreds of thousands of others, the destruction of their property, and to help us achieve the vision of being a "kinder and gentler" people.

Proposed Committee Amendment:

Delete all the words after "nation" and insert "in an expression of profound sorrow, asking God's forgiveness because, in the effort to free the people of Kuwait, Iraqi soldiers and civilians were killed, people were displaced and property was destroyed."

Deputy Miller of Idaho moved the adoption of the original text of Resolution B046.

Deputy Egger of Dallas moved to table the Miller amendment.
