Resolved, That the 70th General Convention of the Episcopal Church call on the dioceses and congregations of this Church to give thanks for the emergence of religious freedom and developing signs of political and economic liberty in Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union, and for the leadership of those churches that have nourished the hope of freedom in those lands; and be it further

Resolved, That this Convention encourage all the dioceses of this Church to establish commissions or other bodies to develop links of support and encouragement with churches of Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union with special attention to the production of religious literature, development of structures for clergy support and exchanges, assistance in the development of voluntary structures of encouragement of social justice, outreach, evangelism and education; and be it further

Resolved, That this Convention encourage the appropriate agencies and offices of the Episcopal Church Center, working, where available, with ecumenical agencies, to explore particular means of contributing to the welfare and strength of the churches of Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union, especially as they participate in the development of free, religious, economic and political processes, to the end that this Church may contribute to the development of justice, freedom and peace among the nations of Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union.
