Resolved, That the 70th General Convention of the Episcopal Church recognize the seriousness of the national crisis of the increasing pauperization of women and children and:

  1. Call on parishes and dioceses to support ministries designed to provide opportunities for movement out of poverty and to assist those still in poverty;
  2. Request the Executive for Advocacy, Witness, and Justice, along with the Women in Mission and Ministry Office, to prepare a report for the Executive Council documenting the pauperization crisis, recommending appropriate public policy positions to be acted on by the Washington Office and also recommending programs and activities of advocacy and service which could be undertaken by parishes and dioceses to respond to the crisis;
  3. Request the Executive Council to report through church media and to the 71st General Convention their response to this resolution.

Resolved, the House of Bishops concurring, That the 70th General Convention of the Episcopal Church recognize the seriousness of the national crisis of the increasing pauperization of women and children; and

Proposed Committee Amendment:

In line 7, before "Witness," add the word "Advocacy" and delete the word "Peace."
