Resolution Number: 1994-C024
Title: Call for Ratification of UN Convention on the Rights of the Child
Legislative Action Taken: Concurred As Amended
Final Text:

Resolved, That the 71st General Convention, while recognizing parents as the primary source for loving authority and guidance in the raising of children, calls upon the Senate of the United States to ratify the Convention on the Rights of the Child adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on January 26, 1990 which recognizes that children have needs and human rights which extend far beyond basic concepts of protection; by committing itself thereby, the government of the United States would then, as most other nations have to date, be fully bound by its positions and answerable to the international community for failure to comply with them; and be it further

Resolved, That the people of every diocese communicate our support of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child to their United States Senators, recommending ratification as quickly as possible.
