The House of Bishops Committee on Constitution presented its Report #5 on Resolution A085 (Amend Constitution II.2 [First Reading]) and moved adoption with amendment.

(A085)

Resolved, the House of Deputies concurring, That Article II.2 of the Constitution be amended to read as follows:

Sec. 2. No one shall be ordained and consecrated Bishop until the attainment of thirty years of age; nor without the consent of a majority of the Standing Committees of all the Dioceses, and the consent of a majority of the Bishops of this Church exercising jurisdiction. But if the election shall have taken place within three months next before the meeting of the General Convention, the consent of the House of Deputies shall be required in place of that of a majority of the Standing Committees.No one shall be ordained and consecrated Bishop by fewer than three Bishops.

Resolved, That a copy of this resolution shall be sent to the Secretary of the Convention of every Diocese to be made known to the Diocesan Convention at its next meeting, and be adopted by the General Convention at its next succeeding regular meeting.

The House of Deputies Committee on Constitution presented its Report #1 on HB Message #28 on Resolution A085 (Amend Constitution II.2 [First Reading]) and moved concurrence.

Deputy Crew of Newark on behalf of the Lay Deputation of Chicago, the Lay and Clergy Deputations of Newark, the Clergy Deputation of Western Michigan, and the Lay and Clergy Deputations of Massachusetts, called for a vote by orders on Resolution A085. The Vice-President ruled the request to be in order.

Deputy Kilpatrick of Ohio moved the previous question.

A vote was taken to terminate debate. The voice vote being inconclusive, the Vice-President called for an electronic vote. The result of the vote was: Yes, 578 votes (70.7%) and No, 240 votes (29.3%).
